Live Well Longer With New LCS Life+ Program at Blakehurst

At Blakehurst, wellness has always been about more than exercise. It’s about having the confidence, connections, opportunities, and support to keep doing the things that make life meaningful. This October, Blakehurst is building on that commitment with the launch of LCS Life+, a new fully personalized wellness lifestyle experience designed to help residents live well longer.
Created by LCS, Life+ recognizes that true wellness isn’t one-size-fits-all. It is as unique as the individual living it. The program brings together meaningful opportunities, thoughtful guidance, and support tailored to everyday life, meeting residents where they are and helping them move toward where they want to be.
“LCS Life+ takes so much of what residents already love about life at Blakehurst and adds an even greater level of intention and personalization,” said Executive Director Renee Garvin. “Wellness means something different to every person. For one resident, it might mean improving balance or building strength. For another, it could mean learning something new, making stronger connections, or making more informed choices that support their health. Life+ gives residents more opportunities and more support to pursue what matters most to them. LCS Life+ also fully adapts to evolving interests, goals, and needs over time.”
Four Pillars of Living Well
LCS Life+ is built around four key pillars — Connection, Movement, Nutrition, and Longevity — that work together.
Connection focuses on connecting with people and the world around us. Life+ creates opportunities to engage with others, explore shared interests, try new things, and deepen a sense of belonging through activities such as groups, volunteering, travel, and intergenerational programs.
Movement is about more than exercise. It is about confidence, independence, and enjoying life on your own terms. From strength and flexibility to balance-focused programs, Life+ helps residents find opportunities that fit their goals, lifestyles, and comfort levels. The program also incorporates innovative tools, including a partnership with Zibrio for evaluating and improving balance. A more standardized, scalable fitness approach also helps create consistent opportunities for engagement, measurable progress, and improved health outcomes. Friendly challenges and shared community milestones add motivation and extra fun along the way.
Nutrition brings together health and enjoyment. Through an exclusive partnership with the Culinary Institute of America, LCS chefs receive specialized nutrition training, with an emphasis on balanced, flavorful options and ingredients that support brain health and overall vitality. Educational and interactive experiences give residents additional opportunities to learn about healthy choices and everyday habits.
Longevity helps residents feel their best today while taking a proactive approach to their health for the years ahead. Wellness and well-being evaluations, wearable technology, personalized insights, sleep, brain health, and medication awareness are all part of a data-informed approach designed to help residents better understand their wellness, track progress, and celebrate milestones.

Blakehurst Celebrates a Week of Wellness and Well-being
Blakehurst will officially introduce residents to Life+ during the LCS Life+ National Week of Wellness & Well-being, October 4-10, with the theme “Live Well Longer with Life+.”
Rather than simply talking about the four pillars, Blakehurst is bringing each of them to life through a full week of activities for residents throughout the community.
The celebration kicks off Sunday with chair yoga and mindfulness (Movement & Connection), a Life+ brunch and healthy snacks (Nutrition), brain-health programming (Longevity), and the launch of a special community-wide Million Step Challenge (all four pillars). Residents can also participate in a webinar about sleep (Longevity), attend a prayer service (Connection), or enjoy outings to the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra Sunday Series and Bach in Baltimore (Connection).
Throughout the week, residents will find plenty of ways to move, learn, connect, and have fun. A croquet tournament, cardio drumming, functional fitness, golf, line dancing, Aqua Sculpt, outdoor exercise, and a trip to Marshy Point Park put Movement into action. A Life+ kickoff presentation will introduce the four pillars and personal wellness, while an Independent Living Health & Wellness Questionnaire Open House will help residents learn more about the community’s approach to individualized well-being.
Nutrition gets its turn in the spotlight with chef cooking demonstrations, a berry yogurt bar, healthy snacks, and a playful “Bar Crawl” featuring mocktails and mindful treats. Residents will also have opportunities to explore Longevity through programs focused on sleep, fall prevention, brain games, health and happiness, and polypharmacy (taking several medications at once).
Connection is woven throughout the week, from MahJongg, trivia, music, dancing, and spiritual programming, to a resident photo guessing game and an Expert Next Door event showcasing residents’ own talents and passions.
The activities will extend to residents at Blakehurst’s health center, Chestnut Green, as well.
Your Plus Is Personal
What makes the program distinctive is the “Plus” — an added layer of intentional support and personalization that adapts to each resident’s individual needs, interests, and goals. This commitment to fully customized and expert well-being is reinforced through Blakehurst’s membership with the International Council on Active Aging (ICAA) and team members actively pursuing ICAA wellness certification to help bring leading wellness principles into everyday life.
The launch of Life+ adds another dimension to a wellness culture that is already an important part of life at Blakehurst. The Towson Life Plan Community offers fitness and wellness programs alongside an indoor pool, fitness center, walking paths, gardens, cultural opportunities, social events, lifelong learning, and numerous ways for residents to connect with one another.
But ultimately, Life+ isn’t about checking off activities on a wellness list. It is about helping each person identify what living well means to them and providing opportunities and support to pursue it.
At Blakehurst, that “Plus” will look a little different for everyone — and that’s exactly the point.
